Vlog – Metal Detecting and Treasure Hunting in Drained Lakes

Filed under: Shipwreck — Tags: , , , , , , — admin @ 3:06 pm Berkley Lake, in Denver, CO. is being drained as part of a project that includes screening a walking trail from I-70 with a berm, trees and indigenous grasses. This is a welcome event for many of the treasure hunters in the area. As most treasure hunters know, it doesn’t get much better than this type of scenario for us. Phil LaRocco a local treasure hunter said “I was here with my father in 1976 when the lake was low. He found 67 gold and silver rings in two weeks.” “We’re waiting for the water to get past that,” he said. “That’s where the diving board was.” LaRocco started out at 5 am Thursday, and by noon he had collected a cache including 13 rings, a 1935 buffalo nickel, a silver Mercury dime and lots of wheat pennies. Joe Fortunato said “People used to swim and play here in the water and lose things like bracelets and rings,” he said. “We’re finding things people lost 50 or 60 years ago.” Doug Sagrillo said “Fishing gear, watches, jewelry, rings,” he said. “It’s like treasure hunting, with the price of gold and silver these days.” The project is due to be complete until June of next year. So there is plenty of time for all you treasure hunters who live nearby or who may be passing through. Lakes in the area have been lucrative in the past too; they have produced treasures in the past. In 1959, law enforcement divers on a training dive in Rocky Mountain Lake Park, also in the Berkeley area found four safes, in the water including one that
Video Rating: 4 / 5 Episode features Bob Howard of central California. He gave up his day job at HP to go full time into prospecting. The episode also features Mike Howard of Eureka. Beach Treasure Hunting clip #1

At low tide on a cloudy September afternoon I hunt for lost jewelry, coins and other stuff buried in the wet sand of the soft sand beach with a Minelab Excalibur II beach/salt water metal detector. Ocean City can be a productive hunting location since it is such a popular tourist spot. In this video, I find a few modern coins and a unidentified heart shaped pendant that could be silver or white gold and diamonds. Many seagulls are interested as you will also see throughout the video clip. Episode features Sue Sallee of Lake Havasu City. She’ll take us out into the Arizona desert to prospect for Gold. She’ll show us her large nugget collection and meteorites she’s found over the years. Episode will also feature Jeri Markinson who hunts the shores and waters of Lake Havasu for jewelry and sunglasses left by the tourists. She’ll also share about her gold prospecting and meteorites.

Gold & Treasure Show headed to Pomona, Calif.

Catch the fever!

Pomona, California (PRWEB) January 03, 2012

The Gold Prospectors Association of America will hold its Gold & Treasure Show in Pomona, Calif. Jan. 21-22. The show will feature seminars led by Tom Massie, host of “Gold Fever” on the Outdoor Channel, or guest speakers and a gold-panning contest.

With the price of gold spiking to record highs in 2011, GPAA President Brandon Johnson said gold fever is definitely rising and memberships to the GPAA have shown substantial growth over the last year.

“Spiking gold prices are sometimes the deciding factor to turn off the TV and actually go gold prospecting to experience it for yourself. A quarter-ounce or pennyweight of gold is worth a lot more now than it used to be,” Johnson said.

“Prospecting isn’t necessarily all about having the gold. It’s as much about finding it,” he said, adding that for many members the thrill is enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.

The Gold & Treasure show in Pomona will feature vendors and displays of gold nuggets, jewelry and prospecting equipment such as metal detectors, drywashers, spiral gold pans, dredges and highbankers.

Showgoers over 18 years of age will get a chance to win a two-week Alaska Gold Expedition trip to GPAA’s famous Cripple River gold prospecting camp near Nome, Alaska. The event will run Saturday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fairplex Pomona, Building 6, 1101 W. McKinley Ave. Pomona, CA, 91768.

Admission is $ 5. Children 12 and under admitted free. The first 100 paid attendees will receive a free vial of placer gold. Tickets are available at the door. To pre-register online and get in free, go to

The Gold Prospectors Association of America has already announced 12 shows for the Spring circuit, more than doubling the number of Gold & Treasure Shows on its nationwide tour from nine in 2011 to 20 shows in 2012:

Atocha Treasure Adventures: Sweat of the Sun, Tears of the Moon Reviews

Atocha Treasure Adventures: Sweat of the Sun, Tears of the Moon

Atocha Treasure Adventures: Sweat of the Sun, Tears of the Moon is written by one of the very few people who worked for the Treasure Salvors organization, in the ‘trenches’, day after day for almost two decades. Syd Jones started out as a diver, worked his way up to captain of several Fisher salvage vessels, and ultimately took over as the operations manager of the company in later years. He and his wife, KT, were both essential to the daily workings of Mel Fisher’s famous salvage company,
